Itinalaga ng Pangulong Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III si Public Works Sec. Rogelio Singson bilang pansamantalang water czar habang pending pa ang pagbuo ng isang super-body na mamamahala sa water supply ng bansa.
Sinabi ngayon ni Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda, maliban sa pagtiyak sa sapat na supply ng malinis na iinuming tubig, maaaring tututukan na rin muna ni Singson ang problema sa pagbaha.
“We have to rationalize because there are so many agencies handling water issues right now,” ani Lacierda.
Ang super-body ay kasalukuyan pang binubuo ng National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
Sa naunang panayam, sinabi ng Pangulo na ang super-body ay siyang makikipag-ugnayan sa mga kinauukulang ahensya tulad sa Manila Waterworks and Sewerage System, National Irrigation Authority at Department of Environment and Natural Resources sa pangangasiwa ng mga watersheds.
“There are so many departments and government agencies in charge of water, that the effect is that it is as if no one is really in charge. The super-body will come up with a comprehensive plan for the whole nation. Because right now, what we have are water districts. What we need is a coordinated plan,” ani Pangulong Aquino.
